Condition Assessment.
Horses should be well covered, with ribs not visible & normally carry some fat which will be lost naturally over winter. Bodyweight should be monitored regularly to ensure it stays within the correct range for its height & breed.
High performance sports horses require minimal fat & gut contents to minimise excess weight. This can cause health problems.
Platform scales are the most accurate but extremely expensive. Major feed companies have teams of sales reps who will weigh your horses for free but only recommend their firm's products.
Horseheath Nutrition's Online service uses visual scoring which you can perform with https://www.bluecross.org.uk/advice/horse/how-to-body-score-your-horse & then enter the score into the Enquiry Form.
